Overview: 1st Federated Suns Armored Cavalry

Origins:

Prince Ian Davion created the 1st FSACR during his reign as First Prince of the Federated Suns. The idea behind the unit was the combination of extreme manuverability with firepower and excellent pilots. The results, the 1st FSACR, proved his theories to be astoundingly correct, although expensive to maintain. Due to the high casualty ratings held by the unit initially after its inception, the unit was never developed beyond the regimental level, as it was difficult to find qualified pilots.

Coming into our own:

Although officially, the 1st FSACR did not participate in any combat from the end of the Third Succession War until participating in Operation Bulldog, the unit has been quite active.

Located on Ziliang, at the point of the Federated Suns' deepest thrust into Liao territory, the 1st FSACR has kept the AFFS supplied and equipped with raids into Liao space throughout its existence. While not much is said about these operations, for obvious reasons, it stands to reason that the Department of the Military Intelligence often works closely with soldiers from the 1st FSACR to accomplish various missions within Liao space.

During Operation Bulldog, the 1st FSACR accounted for itself well, fighting and eliminating both the Smoke Jaguar's Zeta and Omega Galaxies.

The FedCom Civil War:

On April 6, 3063, the 1st FSACR, under command of General Rudolph Chapman, jumped into the Velhas System, intent on hitting the 4th Donegal Guards before they could mobilize for action in defense of the Loyalist control of the Sirdar PDZ command center. On arriving, they found that the 4th Donegal had already left, but pressed on to the planet and eliminated Loyalist resistance with relative ease. On hearing confirmed word of the 4th Donegals arrival on Sirdar, Chapman left the system as quickly as he had arrived, bound for Sirdar.

In early June of 3063, the 1st FSACR arrived in system, with the mercenary 9th Illician Lancers in tow, at Sirdar. The pitched battle for control of this vital planet had been wearing on for two months, with Allied forces primarily on the defensive in the latter part of it. The arrival of the 1st FSACR, 9th Illician Lancers, and Davion Light Guard, however, turned the tide of battle. As soon as the 1st FSACR arrived on the planet, General Rudolph Chapman took overall control of Allied forces, organizing the 1st FSACR, 9th Illician, and DLG into a powerful and fast moving force used to flank the Loyalist 4th Donegal Guards, Sirdar CMM, and 2nd Chisholms Raiders, while the 2nd Davion Guards, with the 4th and 21st Illician Lancers hit the Loyalist positions directly. The result of the assault was a significant, with the Loyalist forces losing over 500 km in just two weeks of combat. In addition, elements of the 1st FSACR performed a flanking maneuver that cut off Loyalist forces from retreat to the DeSaulle supply cache that they desperately needed. Combined forces under command of General Chapman kept the Loyalists pinned down in the city of Sicamous, where they remained, holed up, until they retreated from the planet on August 6, 3063.

On March 8, 3065, the 1st FSACR once again entered action, dropping on the planet of Kathil in assistance of Allied forces that had been contesting the world for two and a half years. Executing a perfect combat drop, General Chapman placed the 1st FSACR immediately at the rear of the 8th Donegal Guards, effectively surrounding them. As Allied forces, consisting of the 5th Davion Guards, 6th Syrtis Fusiliers, and the Kathil CMM, hit the 8th Donegal from the front, the 1st FSACR drove hard at their flank, resulting in significant losses, and the capture of General Tadeusz Pashik on May 17, 3065. Six days later, the 8th Donegal surrendered, leaving only the Second Chisholm Raiders on planet.

Shifting gears promptly, the 1st FSACR, with the Kathil CMM in tow, drove hard towards District City and the main GM manufacturing plant, forcing the 2nd Chisholm Raiders to divert from their original course and to make defense in the nearby stronghold of Radcliffe. With the only remaining Loyalist troops on plainet dug in at Radcliffe, Allied commanders laid siege to the city and gave the bulk of their troops several months of rest, while also assisting the planet in rebuilding its infrastructure.

On October 9th, 3065, General Chapman led the 1st FSACR in the final drive that would end the fighting on Kathil. Arraying his forces, consisting of the 1st FSACR and elements of the remaining 5th Davion Guards, around Radcliffe, Chapman ordered his front so as to intentionally create gaps in their line. Under cover of a massive artillery assault, Allied troops drove into the city, squeezing Loyalist troops out through the holes in their line. As Loyalists found themselves driven into the open, they encountered massed fire from Allied armor. As the 1st FSACR swept through Radcliffe, closing the trap, the 2nd Chisholm raiders - now caught out in the open - surrendered after not even two days of combat. On October 10, 3065, the world of Kathil was completely pacified under Allied control.

Following the end of the FedCom Civil War, General Rudolph Chapman was promoted, turning over command of the 1st FSACR to Major General Tabbitha Rennard.

Objectives:

Located on Ziliang at the point of deepest thrust into the Capellan Confederation, the 1st FSACR is in an ideal location to make various forays into Liao space for the purpose of raiding enemy positions, depots, supplies, and factories. As such, and given the speed with which the unit can operate, it is tasked primarily with raiding supplies from the Capellan Confederation, and bringing them back to supply the troops of the AFFS.

Although it is not widely known, the 1st Armored Cav also works extensively with elements of the Department of Military Intelligence within the borders of the CapCon.
